The test assesses your ability to communicate in English across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. All skills are designed to reflect real-life academic, professional and everyday communication.
Designed for candidates applying for undergraduate or postgraduate study, higher education, or professional registration where English is required.
Suitable for people planning to work, undertake training, or migrate to English-speaking countries. The Reading and Writing sections focus on practical, everyday English, while Listening and Speaking are the same as Academic.

IELTS for UKVI (Academic and General Training) and IELTS for UKVI Life Skills are approved tests by the UK Home Office for visa applications to the UK. The IELTS test you take – and the score you need – will depend on both your visa requirement and/or the requirements of the institution where you plan to study or work.
If you are applying for a UK visa, you might need to take IELTS for UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) Academic or General Training test, or the IELTS Life Skills test, to prove your English proficiency. Please visit the UK government website for the latest visa information.
